I finally caved and bought a Home Sauna... here's how I chose the best one for me

I did not wake up one morning and decide I needed a home sauna.
I resisted the idea for months.
Because once you start looking, you realize the internet is basically one long research rabbit hole of glowing claims, vague specs, and “lifetime warranties” that somehow still leave you feeling unsure.
But after another week of stiff mornings, post workout soreness that lingered longer than it used to, and sleep that felt a little too light... I finally caved.
I decided I was going to buy a real cabin style infrared sauna for my home.
And I was going to do it the boring way: compare the best brands, give everyone a fair chance, read the fine print, and pick the one I would actually use for years.
Here is exactly how I made that decision.
Over 10,000 Peak Saunas Sold Nationwide
Step 1: I stopped shopping by “brand” and started shopping by “non negotiables”
Most people compare saunas like they compare cars: price, looks, and a few headline features...
... but you can't really test-drive a Sauna
So that is how you end up with something that sounds good online but frustrates you in real life.
So I made a simple list of what mattered for daily use.
My non negotiables
Full spectrum infrared heat (not just far infrared)
Real red light therapy, ideally full body and not an extra add on
Smart controls I would actually use (app control matters more than you think)
Clear warranty terms that make sense in plain English
Shipping protection, because freight damage is a real thing
Support I could reach quickly if anything went wrong
Then I made a shortlist: Clearlight, Sunlighten, Finnmark Designs, Health Mate, and Peak.

Step 2: I learned where the “real cost” hides

Here is the part most brands do not say out loud.
The sauna price is often just the starting price.
A lot of premium brands upsell the features that modern buyers assume are included.
Example: red light therapy is often an upgrade
Clearlight openly lists red light therapy as an add on, priced from $999 to $2,199 depending on the setup.
And that was my first “wait a second” moment.
Because I did not want to buy a premium sauna and then realize the most important modern wellness feature was going to be another four figures.
Another example: “full spectrum” can be an upgrade too
On Clearlight’s upgrade list, there is also a “Full Spectrum Heater Upgrade” for $500.
Again, nothing wrong with upgrades.
I just wanted to know what I was really paying for.
Sunlighten was similar in a different way
Sunlighten’s Signature line is clearly positioned as far infrared (gentle far infrared heat).
If you want full spectrum in their lineup, you are pushed toward Amplify, which they market as full spectrum.
And they also list a “RED Light Therapy Panel” separately in their warranty section, which was a subtle clue that red light is treated as its own product category, not a default sauna inclusion.
At this point, my research got simple:
I did not want a “base model sauna” where the best parts live in the add on menu.
I started to understand why traditional sauna lovers dismiss infrared saunas as "not real saunas." Because most of them simply aren't hot enough to trigger the physiological benefits that make saunas therapeutic.
The budget Amazon units were even worse, barely reaching 120°F and emitting chemical smells that gave people headaches.
One review mentioned needing to air out their garage for days because of the toxic fumes.
I was about to give up…
Step 3: I compared shipping like an adult who has been burned by freight delivery before
This is the least exciting part of buying a sauna, and maybe the most important.
You are not ordering headphones.
You are ordering a large, heavy, high value product that travels by freight.
Clearlight’s shipping policy mentions that your shipment may consist of multiple boxes placed on a single pallet.
That can be totally fine, but it also means more exposure to dings, punctures, and crushed corners if freight handling is rough.
Peak took a different approach that immediately lowered my stress level: crate protected delivery included. Standard.
On Peak’s Everest page, they spell out that every sauna ships in a custom protective crate, included, and they explain the curbside freight process and inspection steps.
That matters because if anything arrives imperfect, your “new sauna day” turns into a problem solving day.
I wanted fewer things that could go wrong.
Step 4: I read warranty pages until my eyes crossed, then I found the one that felt honest
This is where most people get fooled.
Because “lifetime warranty” sounds amazing until you realize “lifetime” is often defined. And limited
Finnmark Designs says it bluntly: in the USA, the “lifetime” of an infrared sauna is considered 7 years.
Sunlighten also includes some... language in their warranty section that describes the product’s lifetime as seven years, and notes that freight for parts beyond 90 days and labor costs are not covered.
What I appreciated about Peak is that they put the definition right in the warranty section, in plain terms:
They list “Lifetime” coverage for core components and then clarifies that “Lifetime” refers to the expected life of the component, defined as 7 years for residential use, with clear breakdowns (controls 3 years, many accessories 1 year, and so on).
Even better, they also explicitly say they provide lifetime product support for original owners, even after the warranty window, which is exactly what you want from a high ticket purchase.
It's not strictly speaking "Lifetime" but hey, if that's the industry standard, can't complain. Just need to find the best among the competitors.
Step 5: I asked one question that made the decision obvious

Here was the question:
“If I have an issue two years from now, how easy is it to get a real human to help me?”
This is where Peak separated itself in a way that felt practical.
Peak puts support front and center, including a direct phone number and support email, plus business hours.
And in their reviews on the product page, multiple buyers specifically mention responsive, human support (including help with installation questions).
And also... I tested it.
Made up some fake story and called them. During the call I also invented some problems to see what they would answer.
Of course in the end I politely let them know that I didn't actually have a Peak Sauna yet, but I said I was very happy with the answers and that I would probably be buying one soon (which ended up happening).
But the point is: I felt pretty safe with support.
That is not a small thing.
Because when you buy a sauna, you are not just buying wood and heaters.
You are actually buying the company behind it.
But it wasn't just the smart features that impressed me. I noticed I was handling work pressure better and staying calm when things got chaotic.
4. My Doctor Couldn't Believe My Heart Health
At my annual checkup, my doctor actually did a double-take at my results. "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it," she said. My blood pressure and heart rate had improved more in 6 months than in the previous 5 years combined.
Turns out there's real science behind this. A clinical study with heart failure patients showed that just 15-minute infrared sauna sessions significantly improved cardiovascular function, with one group seeing dramatic reductions in heart irregularities (Beever, 2009).¹
5. I Started Looking Noticeably Younger
The medical-grade red light therapy was working in ways I could actually see. My skin became tighter, fine lines around my eyes started disappearing, and my complexion improved dramatically.
My wife was the first to notice the change. "Your skin looks amazing!" I started getting similar comments from friends and colleagues.
The moment Peak clicked: it was “feature complete” without the luxury markup
Once I lined everything up, Peak felt like the most grown up choice.
Not because the competitors are bad.
But because Peak was the only option that consistently matched how I wanted to buy:
What Peak included that I kept seeing as extras elsewhere
Full spectrum infrared heating with a hybrid system (carbon panels plus full spectrum heaters)
XL medical grade red light therapy panel built in, with eight wavelengths listed (not vague “red LEDs”)
WiFi and app control standard
Crate protected freight shipping includedA warranty written in plain English, including the “7 years” definition that most brands bury
Clear contact info and a support first posture
I ended up choosing a Peak 2 person model (Everest or Fuji came down to wood preference, since the footprint and core feature set are similar. I went with the Fuji).
My simple “buyer checklist” if you are shopping too
If you want to shortcut the whole process, here is what I would tell a friend:
Confirm the heat type: far only vs full spectrum. Do not assume.
Ask how red light is handled: included, partial, or a separate add on.
Look for upgrade menus: they reveal what is not actually standard.
Read shipping details: pallet of boxes vs crate protection.
Read the warranty definition: if they say lifetime, ask “defined as what?”
Test support accessibility: is it easy to reach a real person?
If you do those six things, you will feel calm about whatever you choose.
For me, Peak was the first brand that made the decision feel simple instead of complicated.

The customer support was the best that I have ever experienced. The sauna heats up quick and the lighting and Bluetooth systems are a very nice feature.

I received my sauna and I am ABSOLUTELY loving it! Even my husband is enjoying the benefits of using it. It was packaged very well when it arrived. It was pretty easy to put together.
If you are on the fence like I was for many months don't wait, get one asap you won't regret it! I have more energy and just overall feel better. What sealed the deal for me was the company’s lifetime warranty on the sauna.

Can anyone vouch for this sauna? Thinking about ordering but wanna be sure it’s worth it.

Honestly, I thought I’d have to live with back pain and low energy forever. But Peak Saunas changed everything. I’m sleeping better, my pain’s gone, and I finally feel like myself again. It’s been a total game-changer for my health and routine!

I bought mine at full price and now they’re offering over $3,500 off plus bonuses? Seriously!?

Skyler Graig
Anyone know how long shipping usually takes?

Mine got here in just under a week! Delivered in a super sturdy wooden crate too. Honestly, it was all way smoother than I expected.

Ugh, being a mom is just exhausting. I was feeling it HARD—sluggish, achy, and like my body was running on empty. A friend mentioned infrared saunas helping with recovery and energy, so I did some digging. I ended up getting a Peak Sauna. Honestly? I'm shocked at the difference. I’ve got more energy, my joints feel way better, and I actually look forward to that quiet time every evening. If you're a mom feeling the burnout, this might be the best thing you do for yourself.

No second thoughts, just grab one. Totally worth it.

Wow looks amazing, has anyone actually tried it?
John M.
Yeah, I’ve had mine a few weeks. My knees used to ache constantly and I was always drained. The red light therapy and heat combo is unreal—less pain, more energy, and just a better vibe overall.

Mark Bradley
I want one so bad, I'm gonna buy it this weekend when my paycheck hits!!

Anyone know how quick the delivery is? Want to surprise my sister with one.

Mine showed up in just a couple days, super fast.

Your sister will be happy! Perfect gift
Alex Prescot
Okay, so I was feeling completely drained. Tired, achy knees, just worn out by the end of the day. Then I heard about the Peak Saunas Everest with its full-spectrum infrared heat and red light therapy. Decided to give it a shot. Honestly? After a few weeks, I’m actually feeling energized and way more comfortable. If you’re feeling run down like I was, this might be exactly what you need. 🙌

I don’t like taking pills, but I couldn’t ignore how off I felt anymore. Saw someone post about Peak and figured, why not? It’s only been a few weeks but I feel lighter, more alive. Just better overall.

I’ve actually been using mine right after workouts, and it’s made a huge difference. My recovery time is way faster, and I’m not as sore the next day. Honestly didn’t expect it to help this much.
Michael Orson
Totally get that! I’ve been using it post-run too and it’s become part of my routine. Muscles feel looser, and I sleep better on those days. It’s like active recovery without the ice packs 😂
David Mayson
Just got my Peak Saunas Everest delivered. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but wow — I felt a difference almost immediately! Can’t wait to see how I feel after a few weeks. Definitely feeling more like myself already!
